SV Education Weather Closure Information Notice

Sioux Valley Education

Dear Parents,

It has begun to get cold out and we are anticipating call of concern about weather closures and such. We would like to take this opportunity to inform parents of the following:

  1. Sioux Valley Education plans 7 possible closure days due to weather and road conditions.
  2. The time is made up in short lunch hours. Every other school takes 1 hour for lunch all year long. The K-Grade 6 school site makes up this time during shortened lunch hours from November 2nd to April 4th.
  3. If the time is not used for emergency closures, we may close early in June as we did several yeas ago as no emergency closures were needed.
  4. For safety reasons, our closure policy is -35 without wind-chill factor, -43 with wind-chill factor. This will be determined each morning. You can find posts of closures both here and on our Facebook page – Sioux Valley Education
  5. If the closure is due to cold weather, wherever possible, Sioux Valley Education will utilize the school van to do a provincial school run. It heats as a normal vehicle and is much safer than a school bus in extreme cold weather. If closure is determined due to road conditions, no provincial runs will occur.

I hope this clarifies any questions or concerns about procedures and protocols. You’re children’s safety is our main concern. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please watch this webpage or our Facebook page for any potential closures on these very cold mornings. Stay safe and warm!

Thank You
