SVDN EDUCATION UPDATE:
April 8, 2020
Attention All Parents, Guardians, and Students;
All Manitoba schools have been closed for an indefinite amount of time. We are currently expecting a regular return date for the beginning of this next school year in September. The word indefinite is not specific but we all have our fingers crossed it does not go beyond September.
As most parents and guardians are aware, homeschooling can be difficult. If you haven’t already, please contact your child’s teacher with any questions you may have related to the home packages. Teachers have now contacted or attempted to contact all parents/guardians as of today. Teachers are expected to remain on call for questions such as these. Some teachers are available for video chatting in order to help tutor students. Discuss with teacher once contact is made.
We are currently planning the next home package. This will include basic activities (drawing, puzzles, a ball, etc.). Health is also including a board game and Covid-19 information packages to be included.
The packages will also include one (Math and ELA) or two (a Math and an ELA) books. These books will be specific for each student. After consulting the teachers, specific grade level books will be sent home with students to help reinforce both the current learning level and the previous level that perhaps needs more work. These books include the notes, assignments, and answer keys to help with learning. Again, please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. These packages will be delivered sometime between April 15 and 17 . Please watch for current Facebook posts regarding this.
We are shooting for this to occur April 15 morning as we are waiting on some final deliveries of supplies.
All students that were registered in courses will keep current marks. Courses will be granted. However, marks may wait until the province gives more direction. Their marks may be adjusted to reflect the current situation related to COVID-19. All students will be promoted to the next grade level as the province announced. No students will be held back in account to the pandemic.
Students who were set to graduate will be eligible to do so. The graduating class of 2020 will also have the option to come back next year to retake courses – IF they choose. A graduation will be planned once it is safe to do so.
Our Guidance counsellor will have included information on anxiety for all to read. It will include strategies to help offset anxiety in these tough times for everyone. Please reread Facebook posts that have all staff listed in Sioux Valley that may help your child in this area through a phone call or email etc. They are there to help. Please keep safe and practice all social distancing and other measures recommended from health.
Note: It is very important for all parents/guardians to complete the home questionnaire for Education planning. As we do not know what this pandemic will look like in months to come but Sioux Valley Education will start planning alternatives but hoping we get back to normal classes asap.
We all miss our students so much and we look forward to seeing their smiling faces very soon! Please be safe and may creator watch over us all during these times!
