Youth Employment Opportunity – Gardener/Laborer- Community Garden & Composting Program (05.23.19)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gardener/Laborer will work under the direction of the Composting & Community Garden Coordinator and will assist in the development and maintenance of a community garden. The Garden/Laborer will also be responsible for helping with organizing and planning of season-end events, and various tasks pertaining to the sustainability of the composting program and cold frame greenhouse. Must be in good physical condition and have the ability to carry out tasks such as bending, standing and lifting heavy objects.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Handling of tools and equipment
  • Planting and maintenance of various plant types such as vegetables, fruits, trees, and flowers
  • Physical activities that include shoveling, weeding, and hammering
  • Assist in the building and maintenance of a cold frame greenhouse, as well as the planning, designing, and sustaining the community garden and composting programs

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 16 – 30
  • Previous experience and/or knowledge would be considered an asset but not required
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license would be considered an asset but not required
  • Background knowledge of Dakota language and culture, history, etc.
  • Professionalism and ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills are required
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff and clients by adhering to safety and health regulations is required
