Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Employment Opportunity – Petro-Can General Manager (11.29.19)

POSITION SUMMARY: The General Manager of the Petro-Can is responsible for the successful operation of the business, organization, team building, and management. The General Manager is expected to promote the business, recruit, interview with a focus on developing capacity and training to Sioux Valley Dakota Nation citizens.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Determining staff requirements and hiring of successful, customer-focused team giving priority to SVDN citizens where qualified
  • Plan and direct the operations of the Petro-Can
  • Manage staff and assign duties
  • Create and implement policies and procedures
  • Uphold Safety
  • Determine merchandise and services to be sold, and implement price structures
  • Locate, select, and procure merchandise for resale
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies 
  • Utilize and cooperate with required customer appreciation and incentive programs
  • Resolve customer complaints
  • Provide training sessions and orientate each new hire
  • Enforce all corporate and local policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain employee schedules
  • Review timecards and employee schedule to ensure shifts are covered
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll information
  • Reconcile monthly and annual sales reports
  • Reconcile monthly and annual inventory  
  • Fuel and Tobacco Rebates
  • Enforce a progressive discipline policy with verbal and written warnings as necessary and in accordance with the Human Resource Policy and other policies in effect time to time
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Financial Management experience required
  • Understand financial statements and able to prepare financial forecasts 
  • Previous retail and supervisory experience
  • Must have 2-5 years management experience 
  • Previous management of a gas station experience considered a strong asset
  • Excellent communication skills required, and must be highly organized
  • Experience in the hiring process
  • Diploma/Degree in Business Administration or Management an asset
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, and proficient with cash registers
  • Excellent customer service skills an asset
