Employment Opportunity – Economic Development Officer (04.19.19)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Sioux Valley Dakota Oyate Economic Development Officer shall promote Sioux Valley Dakota Nation’s Vision and Mission Statements. They shall aspire to complete the following areas of development such as Economic Development, Policy Development and Project Coordination.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Maintain relationships and engages in joint projects or initiatives with other organizations engaged in economic development in the region
  • Provides business counselling and entrepreneurship related activities
  • Acts as a community member advocate with all funding sources
  • Develops policies as directed or through the authority provided by the direct reporting relationship of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation that may include, Chief and Council, Economic Development Committees, Band Manager or equivalent
  • Responds to recommendations regarding policy from any of the above including community members
  • Monitors policies to ensure compliance and continues effectiveness within the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation
  • Coordinates and facilitates planning and production meetings with staff, clients and project personnel for First Nation initiatives
  • Updates and maintains communication with clients regarding project activities including the use of project flowcharts and story boards to ensure investors remain informed
  • Coordinates activities of departments, agencies, contractors until project completion
  • Develops proposals based in funding source guidelines to be submitted to funding agencies
  • Submits all financial reports to any agency providing funding support as required
  • Assists in the financial reporting for the First Nation members are required by the outside agencies
  • Maintains and develops promotional material and targeted promotional campaigns for key economic opportunities
  • Develops and maintains performance monitoring and bench marking system for economic growth with Sioux Valley Dakota Nation
  • Conducts timely business community surveys to determine future business requirements and projected growth of the private sector development within Sioux Valley Dakota Nation
  • Ability to develop and interpret complex rules and contract language
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using written or oral reports and group presentations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Business Administration with economic development related courses
  • Proficient with computers and software’s
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Report writing and interviewing skills
  • High degree of confidentiality
  • Must be able to work as a team and able to maintain a cooperative working relationship with staff
  • Knowledge of all facets of communications and consultations
  • Valid Manitoba drivers license and reliable vehicle
  • Knowledge of Dakota language an asset
