Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Employment Opportunity Dakota Oyate Lodge – Casual Recreation Assistant (06.12.20)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Recreation Department is a team of health care professionals providing recreation programs to promote the health and wellness of the residents of the Dakota Oyate Lodge. Reporting to the Administrator or Recreation Facilitator.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Utilize the Facility assessment tools for the initial ongoing assessments of each resident assigned to them
  • Involve resident and/or significant others to assess physical, social/emotional/cognitive and leisure abilities
  • Observe Resident’s behaviour to assess functioning
  • Develop and document individualized plan based on assessment
  • Analyze, interpret and document results of assessment
  • Exchange information with interdisciplinary team members regarding resident progress and revise care plans as required 
  • Develop and implement creative leisure activities for individual and groups based on resident interests, needs, wishes and lifestyles
  • Provide support to residents through casual conversation or group discussion during work performance
  • Assist residents to be active participants in management of their own environment
  • Complete daily attendance records for each resident
  • Actively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees
  • Participate in promoting a respectful workplace
  • Comply with facility/department policy and procedures
  • Comply with accreditation standards and regulations
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be competent with Windows based programs (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.)
  • Graduate of Recreation Facilitator or Older Adults Certificate or willingness to complete within a mutually agreed time frame
  • Interest in population served
  • Current valid driver license 
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Current valid First Aid Certificate
  • Current Food Safe Course
  • Complete confidentiality is essential to this position
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and part as a team
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to react positively within a constant changing environment
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
