Aboriginal Circle of Educators Education Awards Banquet (02.06.14)

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is pleased to announce that Elder Doris Pratt of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation was honored yesterday, February 6th, 2014 at the 8th Annual Aboriginal Circle of Educators Education Awards Banquet in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Elder Doris was recognized with a Trailblazer/Lifetime Achievement Award for being a trailblazer in education and promoting indigenous language and culture.

Chief Vince Tacan of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation responded on behalf of Elder Doris to say how proud he and the community of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation was of her and her achievements, and how over the years he has had the honour of working closely with and relying upon Elder Doris to assist him with the ever-evolving challenges in governance and the promotion of education at Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Chief Tacan was also acknowledged by ACE honorees as the only Chief of a Manitoba First Nation in attendance at the ceremony and was thanked for supporting and honouring his elder in promoting Dakota language and culture.

Elder Doris was supported by family members Alex Pratt, Evelyn Pratt and Marilyn Hall. Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Councillor Jennifer Bone, Education Director Kevin Nabess, and tribal attorney Bruce Slusar also attended the event.
